If you have an existing system and are thinking of upgrading your operating system from Windows 98 Second Edition to a new version of Windows (ie. 2000 or XP) think hard about the programs you use now. Are they going to be compatable with the newer operating systems? Check the web sites for each program to make sure they have updates. We have found that many products other than business related software's (ie. MS Office etc.) have no ability to run under the new operating versions reliably. Several people that have upgraded wound up having to revert back to Windows 98 SE to get their stuff to work properly again. The newer versions of OSs (operating systems) are nice, but they are only of use to those who need specific freatures they have. Most of the things they advertise on their new ad campaigns you can already do in Windows 98 SE. They just don't tell you about it. They would prefer you to purchase the new software products to continue their own growth.
